K-STATE SENIOR FROM NORTH DAKOTA IS COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE'S STUDENT OF THE YEAR; STUDENTS FROM CENTRALIA AND PHILLIPSBURG WIN MONTHLY HONORS
MANHATTAN -- Rebecca Tokach, a senior in animal sciences and industry, St. Anthony, N.D., has been named the Kansas State University College of Agriculture's Student of the Year. The honor includes the $500 Weyer Scholarship.
Nominees for the award were all recipients of the college's Student of the Month Award during the 2007-2008 school year. Tokach received the honor for February 2008. Students of the month are nominated by departmental clubs in the college and are judged on their academics, as well as department, college and university and community activities. A committee of students and faculty from the College of Agriculture selects the monthly winner and the yearly winner.
Tokach has been a member of the College of Agriculture Student Council, Agricultural Ambassadors, Block and Bridle and Collegiate Farm Bureau. She also is a member of the K-State Meats Evaluation Team, College of Agriculture Academic Competition Teams Council and the Animal Sciences and Industry Academic Quadrathalon. She also has been active with the Junior Angus Association, serving on its board of directors and on several of its committee. As the College of Agriculture Student of the Year, she receives the Weyer Scholarship, which is sponsored by Douglas Weyer, a K-State alum.
Matt Becker, senior in agronomy, Centralia, has been named the K-State Agriculture Student of the Month for March, while Tina Krafft, senior in animal sciences and industry, Phillipsburg, is the Agriculture Student of the Month for April. They both will receive a $100 scholarship from the Kansas Farm Bureau, the Student of the Month sponsor.
Becker has been involved with crops judging and was a member of the K-State team that won first in the national crops judging contest. He also is a member of the Wheat State Agronomy Club, Agronomy Quiz Bowl and the Knights of Columbus.
Krafft is a member of Block and Bridle, Collegiate Farm Bureau, Collegiate Cattlewomen, the College of Agriculture Honors Program and Alpha of Clovia. She also has been a member of the K-State Meats Judging Team; Alpha Zeta, the agriculture honorary; and Phi Kappa Phi, the scholastic honor society. In addition, she has helped with the annual K-State Legacy Bull Sale.
