MORE THAN 50 STUDENTS AT K-STATE NEW MEMBERS OF PHI BETA KAPPA

MANHATTAN -- New members of Kansas State University's chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest and most prestigious academic honor society, have been selected.

Phi Beta Kappa, founded in 1776, fosters and recognizes excellence in the liberal arts and sciences. With just 262 chapters, only about 10 percent of institutions of higher learning in the nation have a Phi Beta Kappa chapter. K-State is home to one of only two chapters in Kansas.

To be eligible for membership consideration to Phi Beta Kappa, a student must be a junior or a senior with a grade point average of at least 3.7; students with grade point averages between 3.5-3.7 may be considered if the level and depth of their course work indicates an unusually distinguished record.

Students also must be candidates for a bachelor's degree in K-State's College of Arts and Sciences or have at least 90 hours or three-fourths of their total course work from departments in the college.
