WORK BEGINS ON K-STATE'S PARKING GARAGE

MANHATTAN -- Work has begun on the new parking garage south of the union, with the removal of the hourly meters this week. The demolition contractor will begin Monday, Aug. 6, according to Gary Leitnaker, assistant vice president for human resources. He said Murray and Sons, Inc., of Topeka is the main contractor.

Please make note of the following changes to traffic flow and parking in the areas adjacent to the union.

Streets – Mid Campus Drive will remain open, but will be limited to one lane north bound, to the turn around area immediately to the east of the union, where it will become two-way. Traffic from Mid Campus Drive to 17th, immediately south of the student union, will no longer be allowed. Seventeenth Street will remain open throughout construction, with the exception of when it is widened and work is being completed for the entrances and exits from the garage. Even then, one lane is anticipated to be open.

Information Booth – The visitor information booth on 17th Street will remain open during construction. Its hours will remain 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you have guests coming to campus who require assistance outside of those hours, please ask them to either call the campus police or come to the west side of Edwards Hall for visitor permits and directions on where to park.

Parking – All reserved stalls in the lower union lot, those along Mid Campus Drive and those next to Kedzie Hall are being relocated to other lots. The stalls next to Kedzie Hall are being converted to handicapped stalls for visitors to the union and campus. All other parkers are encouraged to park at the east Bramlage lot on the north side of campus.

Shuttle Buses – Parking Services will run several free shuttle buses for employees and visitors from the east Bramlage lot to the northwest side of the union. The buses will run approximately every 10 minutes between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. beginning August 20 on days school is in session. If you park to ride in the east Bramlage lot, you must have a parking permit.

"We are asking employees, students and visitors to please take the time necessary to become familiar with where they will park and with traffic-flow changes during garage construction," Leitnaker said. Please call Parking Services at 532-7275 with any questions.
