GET A TASTE OF PURPLE PRIDE AT K-STATE AT SALINA'S OPEN HOUSE

SALINA -- Discover a campus of fun at Kansas State University at Salina's Open House, where you can see what it's like to fly K-State's jet or try out technology built by engineering technology students.

Open House activities will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 14, on the K-State at Salina campus, 2310 Centennial Road. Information on majors and admissions, as well as details on what it's like to live, work and go to school at K-State at Salina, also will be available. Campus tours can be scheduled in advance, if desired.

At K-State at Salina's Open House you also can:

* Fly high above Salina using the college's top-of-the-line simulators.

* Check out K-State's fleet of more than 30 planes.

* Use the Cat Cannon to launch water balloons at targets shaped suspiciously like collegiate mascots.

* Shoot some hoops and beat the top score on Pop-A-Shot.

* Grab a hammer and take your technological frustrations out on donated computers.

* See how many fraternity members can fit into the smallest plane in the K-State fleet.

* Miraculously "hop" a go-cart and get a video to prove you did it.

* Be a catalyst in explosive chemistry demonstrations.

* See the power of physics in motion with the mini-catapult and other games.

* Set sail with a canoe made of concrete or a solar-powered boat.

* Check out a Chinook helicopter from the Army Reserve or the Lifestar Air Ambulance, flown by a K-State at Salina faculty member, that will be on display.

* And don't leave without a free taste of K-State's own Purple Pride ice cream.

The Wildcat Fly-In, which is associated with open house, starts at 8 a.m. April 14. While enjoying breakfast, participants will have a chance to chat with pilots and aircraft mechanics of the past, present and future. Donations will be accepted for the breakfast, which is sponsored by K-State's Flight Team. Fuel discounts also will be available. A Federal Aviation Administration "Wings" safety seminar for pilots will be at 10 a.m.
