K-STATE'S COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE, PLANNING AND DESIGN DISPLAYS WORK BY STUDY-ABROAD STUDENTS

MANHATTAN -- Projects by students in spring and summer 2007 study-abroad programs of Kansas State University and the College of Architecture, Planning and Design will be on display through Oct. 5 in the Chang Gallery and the first floor hallway of the east wing of Seaton Hall.

The exhibition is free and the public is welcome. The gallery is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

Students in the College of Architecture, Planning and Design are given the option of studying abroad during the spring semester of their fourth year. During spring and summer 2007, 75 fourth-year students chose to study abroad. This represents 59 percent of the college's fall 2007 fifth-year students. Seven third-year interior architecture and product design students participated in summer study abroad, which is now an option in the recently established master's degree program in interior architecture and product design.

The college's students are particularly well served by studying in unfamiliar environments, said Lynn Ewanow, associate dean and head of the college's study-abroad programs, because it heightens cultural and historical awareness, improves self-reliance, encourages better understanding of global economics, politics, and societies, and broadens professional horizons.

"The College of Architecture, Planning and Design is committed to enhancing the study abroad experience for its students and supporting the emphasis on international education, which is part of the K-State strategic plan," Ewanow said.

Students took part in the following spring and summer 2007 programs: Deakin University, Geelong, Australia; Energy Tomorrow, University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia; University of Western Australia, Perth; Czech Tech, Prague, Czech Republic; Denmark International Study Program, Copenhagen; Fachhochschule Trier, Trier, Germany; Italart Centro Studi Santa Chiara, Italy; Castiglion Fiorentino, Italy; the Lorenzo de' Medici School, Florence, Italy; Centro Studi Citta di Orvieto, Orvieto, Italy; andVolunteers for Peace, Italy and Spain.
