K-STATE
STUDENT GROUP SPONSORING AN INDIAN DANCE EVENT OCT. 22
MANHATTAN
-- The Society for Appreciation of Bharatiya Heritage and Arts,
an Indian students organization at Kansas State University, will
introduce audience members to Indian dance styles in an upcoming
campus performance.
"Yugma,"
featuring two styles of dance, will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22,
in Forum Hall at the K-State Student Union. The event, to promote
Indian culture, includes performances by Shreyashi Dey, Nalini Prakash,
Vijay Palaparty and Manoranjan Pradhan. "Yugma" will feature
two of the most popular dance forms, Odissi and Bharatnatyam, which
also are some of the oldest Indian classical dance forms. The dance
styles follow strict disciplines and require dedication and training
to master.
The
event is free and the public is welcome. Refreshments will be served.
The
performance is sponsored by the Society for Appreciation of Bharatiya
Heritage and Arts, a cultural society that seeks to bring the cultural
heritage and musical traditions of India to the Manhattan area.
The group works to expose audiences to the beauty of traditional
Indian music and dance, while promoting the country's culture and
heritage. The society also conducts various workshops to explain
the theory behind the music so that the listener may appreciate
the music more fully. The society also is planning music and dance
events for the spring semester.

information on the group is available at http://www.k-state.edu/sabha/
