K-STATE'S
MCCAIN PERFORMANCE SERIES PRESENTS 'HAMLET,' VIENNA PIANO TRIO
MANHATTAN
-- The next presentations in Kansas State University's McCain Performance
Series will be a showing of "Hamlet" and a concert by
the Vienna Piano Trio.
Actors
from the London Stage will present the Shakespeare classic "Hamlet"
at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, in McCain Auditorium.
Now
in its 30th year, Actors From The London Stage is one of the oldest
established touring Shakespeare theater companies in the world.
The company will present Shakespeare's tale of ghosts, betrayal,
murder and tragedy.
A
pre-performance lecture will be given by Don Hedrick, K-State professor
of English, at 6:30 p.m. in 204 McCain.
Additionally,
cast members from "Hamlet" will present two dramatic readings
in Manhattan; both are free and open to the public. Terrence Wilton
will present a reading of "Ithaka" at 7 p.m. Wednesday,
Oct. 18, at the Manhattan Arts Center. Geoffrey Beevers will present
a reading of "Pilgrim's Progress" at 7 p.m. Thursday,
Oct. 19, in the Flint Hills Room at the K-State Student Union.
The internationally celebrated Vienna Piano Trio will perform at
7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, in All Faiths Chapel.
The
trio will perform Beethoven's Trio in D-Major "Ghost,"
Schoenberg's "Verlarte Nacht" in the piano transcription
by Eduard Steuermann and Shubert's Piano Trio in B-Flat Major D.898,
Op.99.
Described
by the Washington Post as "one of the world's leading ensembles
of violin, cello and piano," the Vienna Piano Trio annually
appears on major stages worldwide, including recent performances
in England, Germany, Japan, France, Belgium and Australia. In May
1999, Classic CD named them "Top of their Class" and The
London Times voted the trio's Beethoven CD as record of the year.
Praised for its silken homogenous sound, the ensemble also has graced
the stage of Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall and the Kennedy and Lincoln
centers.
A
pre-performance lecture will be given by Cora Cooper, K-State music
professor, at 6:30 p.m. in 204 McCain.
Tickets
for the performances can be purchased at http://www.k-state.edu/mccain
or by calling the McCain Box Office at 785-532-6428 between 11 a.m.
and 6 p.m. weekdays.
The
events are sponsored by the Kansas Arts Commission, the National
Endowment for the Arts and the K-State fine arts fee.
