K-STATE FOOTBALL COACH BILL SNYDER RECEIVES KRAUSE AWARD
MANHATTAN
-- Former Kansas State University football coach Bill Snyder has
been named the recipient of the Robert S. Krause Alpha Tau Omega
Outstanding Campus Leader Award from the K-State chapter of Alpha
Tau Omega Fraternity.
Snyder
received the award at the fraternity's awards banquet Oct. 10.
The
award honors K-State's vice president for institutional advancement,
Robert S. Krause, who was the chapter's faculty adviser for 12 years.
It recognizes top faculty, staff or administrators at K-State, as
chosen by chapter members.
The
Alpha Tau Omega Students' Aid Endowment Fund presented Snyder a
plaque and a $1,000 cash donation to the charity of his choice.
Snyder has designated the Manhattan Boys and Girls Club and Big
Brothers Big Sisters of Manhattan as co-recipients of the donation.
The
Krause Award was established in 2003. Previous recipients were Pat
Bosco, associate vice president for institutional advancement and
dean of student life, 2003; Amy Button Renz, president of the K-State
Alumni Association, 2004; and James R. Coffman, K-State provost
emeritus, 2005.
A native
of St. Joseph, Mo., Snyder was K-State's head coach from 1989 until
his retirement in 2005. In his 17 years on the job, Snyder became
the all-time winningest football coach at K-State with 136 wins,
and he led K-State to 11 consecutive bowl games from 1993-2003,
with six wins. Snyder's legacy at K-State also includes winning
the Big 12 championship in 2003 and sharing four Big 12 North titles
since conference play began in 1996. During the 1998 season, K-State
posted an undefeated 11-0 regular season and earned its first ever
No. 1 ranking in the national polls. K-State's Bill Snyder Family
Stadium is named in his honor.
Snyder
is a 1963 graduate of William Jewell College. He received a master's
from Eastern New Mexico University in 1965. He currently continues
a career of mentoring young Kansans by leading Kansas Mentors, a
statewide effort to promote mentoring and to encourage more adults
to become caring role models for Kansas children. He also serves
as chairman of the K-State Leadership Studies Building Campaign,
honorary chairman of the Kansas State University Foundation's Changing
Lives Campaign and past president of the K-State Friends of the
Libraries organization.
