NEW STUDENT DIRECTORS FOR K-STATE'S WILDCAT WARM-UP PROGRAM

MANHATTAN -- Kansas State University has new student directors for Wildcat Warm-up, a program designed to improve student retention.

Wildcat Warm-up allows new students to spend three days and two nights at K-State the summer before their first semester at college. Participants establish connections to current students, faculty and staff while learning student success strategies and K-State traditions. It is an optional program in addition to K-State's orientation and enrollment programs.

"It will give new students entering K-State in fall 2008 a head start by meeting other freshmen, learning K-State traditions, getting involved in campus organizations and gaining a sense of the Wildcat spirit," said Emily Lehning, assistant dean of student life at K-State.

The student directors will coordinate the work of student counselors to create and deliver a program offering informational activities for new K-State students. This year K-State is offering two sessions of Wildcat Warm-up, June 13-15 and June 18-20.

Student directors include:

Maggie Winter, junior in art education, and Taylor Symons, junior in speech, both of Manhattan; and Derek Hardin, junior in architectural engineering, Wichita.

From out-of-state: John Lantz, junior in accounting, Kirkwood, Mo.

This marks the program's fifth year. Wildcat Warm-up is supported by tuition enhancement funds allocated by the K-State Student Governing Association. For more information about the program, call 785-532-6250 or 800-432-8270.
