K-STATE DISTANCE EDUCATION OFFERING NEW PROGRAMS, ENROLLING FOR 2008 SPRING SEMESTER

MANHATTAN -- Enrollment for Kansas State University distance education courses is currently under way for the 2008 spring semester.

K-State offers 26 distance degree and certificate programs and hundreds of courses for people who are unable to come to campus, leave their current job or relocate their family.

New distance education programs being offered through K-State include:

* Academic advising master's degree. This degree has an emphasis in either administration of academic advising or intercollegiate athletics and the college student. The program involves 30 credit hours of course work and is designed to prepare students for positions as academic advisers in college and university settings. A 15-credit-hour graduate certificate in academic advising also is offered through K-State distance education.

* Food safety and defense graduate certificate. This 12-credit hour graduate program focuses on protecting public health and preventing food contamination. Topics include food microbiology and biotechnology, food-borne toxicants, food safety and security, food laws, risk assessment, rapid food microbiological methods, food allergy and food fermentation. The food safety and defense graduate certificate is a program of the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance, a consortium of universities offering fully online graduate programs.
