CAMPUS CRISIS MANAGEMENT TOPIC OF K-STATE'S CHESTER E. PETERS LECTURE

MANHATTAN -- How the shooting tragedies at Virginia Tech and Northern Illinois universities have reshaped perceptions on campus safety and institutional response to such crisis events will be the topic of Kansas State University's Chester E. Peters Lecture in Student Development.

Eugene Zdziarski II, assistant vice president and dean of students at the University of Florida, will present "Campus Crisis Management: The New Normalcy for Higher Education," at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in the K-State Student Union's Little Theater.

The lecture, sponsored by the K-State College of Education dean's office, is free and open to the public. A reception for Zdziarski will follow his presentation.

Zdziarski, who is a co-author of the book "Campus Crisis Management," will look at how campus crisis communication has become the new normalcy and how campus administrators can address this change.

Zdziarski joined the University of Florida in 2001 after serving in other administrative roles at the University of Tennessee and Texas A&M University. In his Florida post, he provides overall leadership and direction to a wide array of programs and services within the university's Division of Student Affairs, including the Center for Leadership and Services, judicial affairs, multicultural and diversity affairs, new student programs, off-campus life and student legal affairs.

He earned his bachelor's degree from Oklahoma State University, a master's from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and his doctorate from Texas A&M. His dissertation was "Institutional Preparedness to Respond to Campus Crisis as Perceived by Student Affairs Administrators at Selected NASPA Member Institutions."

More information on Zdziarski's lecture is available by contacting Nikki Krubsack at nkrubsac@k-state.edu.
