'LADIES NIGHT' AT K-STATE'S BEACH MUSEUM PUTS JEWELRY IN NEW LIGHT
MANHATTAN -- The Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art at Kansas State University is offering a "ladies night" that puts the spotlight on jewelry – looking at it, learning from it and even making it – from 6:30-9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7.
The evening will include a tour of the museum's exhibit, "Sculpture Transformed: The Work of Marjorie Schick," led by Kathrine Schlageck, senior educator at the Beach Museum. Schick's full-body jewelry incorporates vivid colors and elaborate textures. This exhibit is the first retrospective of Schick's career in the country.
"Our last 'ladies night' was lots of fun," Schlageck said. "This time we'll be making jewelry -- just in case you're not expecting any for Valentine's Day."
Participants can create their own jewelry, including handmade beads. Refreshments will be served.
Admission is $10 per person and reservations are required. For more information or to reserve a spot, contact Schlageck at 785-532-7718 or drop by the museum on the southeast corner of the K-State campus at 14th Street and Anderson Avenue. Free visitor parking is available next to the building.
Normal museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays; and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. The museum is closed Mondays.
