K-STATE'S COMMON GOOD INTERNSHIP/CAREER FAIR OFFERS JOB OPPORTUNITIES IN SEVERAL FIELDS
MANHATTAN -- Kansas State University's first Common Good Internship/Career Fair will be 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, in the K-State Student Union's Grand Ballroom.
The fair combines the Journalism and Mass Communications Career Fair and the Criminology Career Fair. It is sponsored by K-State's career and employment services; A.Q. Miller School of Journalism and Mass Communications; department of sociology, anthropology and social work; and civic leadership program.
Combining two career fairs into one has benefits, according to Karl Kandt, assistant director at career and employment services and liaison to the K-State College of Arts and Sciences.
"Having a single fair works in the favor of both the employers and the students," Kandt said. "The employers get the benefits of having a full career fair with a larger group of students, and students will be able to explore a variety of career paths that they might have not have been exposed to previously."
Kandt said 60 to 70 employers are expected to attend the fair and have some internship and full-time positions available. Some of these employers include the American Red Cross, Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Metro Sports, Sunflower Broadcasting, city of Overland Park, state of Kansas, the United States Border Patrol and WIBW-TV in Topeka.
"These employers are covering a wide variety of positions and are looking for students from all colleges," Kandt said.
Students are encouraged to dress in business casual or formal attire and to bring resume copies, a pen and a notepad. A student I.D. is also required.
More information and a list of employers attending the fair is available at http://www.k-state.edu/ces and clicking on the "Common Good Career Fair" icon at the top of the page.
