ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT SEPT. 5 FOR K-STATE'S TERRY C. JOHNSON CENTER FOR BASIC CANCER RESEARCH

MANHATTAN -- The 11th annual Rob Regier Memorial Golf Tournament, scheduled for Friday, Sept. 5, will again benefit the research and education programs of the Terry C. Johnson Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University.

The four-person scramble will have a shotgun start at noon at K-State's Colbert Hills Golf Course in Manhattan. Registration is requested beforehand, but same-day registration will be accepted at 11 a.m.

The tournament, which has generated about $130,000 for the center, honors Rob Regier, a 1988 graduate of K-State in pre-dentistry who died of cancer at age 26. Tournament hosts are Regier's parents, Sandy and Les Regier, and his brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Juli Regier, all of Overland Park.

The registration fee of $150 per person includes lunch and the evening awards banquet. Prizes will recognize top teams and hole contest winners, along with other accomplishments.

Arrangements have been made for tournament participants wanting to stay for the next day's K-State football game against Montana State. Hotel rooms and game tickets are available by calling the cancer center at 785-532-6705.

The tournament's premier sponsor is Grand Mere, a planned golf course community in Manhattan. Additional sponsors are welcome; all sponsors receive recognition.

More information and a registration form are available online at http://www.k-state.edu/cancer.center/news or by calling 785-532-6705. More information on Colbert Hills is available at http://www.colberthills.com
