Clyde Howard accepted the affirmative action director position at Kansas State University in 1994 after seeing a genuine commitment by the university to strengthen its affirmative action program.
Today, Howard continues to hold the position with a vision of seeing workplaces that promote diversity, equal opportunity and fairness and equity, as well as reward excellence.
As director, Howard's duties include administering the university's affirmative action plan, monitoring searches and resolving discrimination and harassment complaints. He came to K-State following a stint as director of the state equal employment opportunity office in the Kansas Department of Administration in Topeka.
Howard was confirmed a commissioner to the Kansas Human Rights Commission in August 2005. As a commissioner, he works to set agency priorities for the resolution of complaints, examine progress toward performance goals and objectives, identify changes to strengthen enforcement and compliance with nondiscrimination and equal opportunity laws and regulations in public, and establish and monitor procedures to investigate discrimination and racial profiling complaints.
Howard received his bachelor's degree with honors in political science from K-State in 1977 and his master's in public administration with honors from the University of Kansas in 1983.
