JUDY COLLINS
Assistant professor, English

 

Judy Collins teaches technical writing and literature courses in an interactive, computer-mediated environment bringing documents, students and their work together in productive ways.

Collins, an assistant professor of English at Kansas State University's Salina campus, has supplemented her instruction with online resources for a few years now, beginning at Arizona State University. She has presented at Kansas State University Online meetings, a discussion group promoting the use of instructional technology across curriculum, and mentored teaching assistants new to computer-mediated classrooms at Arizona State University. Collins also presented at the Kansas Association of Teachers of English conference on the use of writing scenarios in technical writing courses.

She is a published author of academic articles and poetry. Her scholarship has appeared in National Council of Teachers of English anthologies and collections published for teachers of writing. Collins' volume, "Squall Line," a collection of original poems, was published in 1995. Her work also has appeared in a number of literary magazines, including Exhibition Magazine, Bellowing Ark, Chambered Nautilus, Spindrift Magazine, Northwest Poets and Artists Calendar, The Seattle Review, Jeopardy Magazine, The Duckabush Journal and The Bellingham Review.

In addition to K-State and Arizona State University, Collins has taught at Western Washington University, Whatcom Community College and Skagit Valley Community College, where she also edited various magazines and journals and was on the Board of Directors of the Washington Poets Association. At Arizona State University, Collins was recognized by the department of student affairs for contributions to the quality of life for students at the school.

Collins belongs to the National Council of Teachers of English, the Kansas Association of Teachers of English and the Council of Writing Program Administrators. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees in English, Writing Concentration (Poetry) from Western Washington University and her doctorate from Arizona State University in English: Rhetoric/Composition-Linguistics.
