* Amir Tavakkol, an associate professor of finance at K-State's College of Business Administration, has been named a Fulbright senior scholar. In spring 2008 Tavakkol will return to the Europa-Universitat Viadrina in Frankfurt on the Oder, where he plans to teach corporate finance and investments and to pursue his research on earnings management. It will be his fourth visit to the German university, which has an exchange program with K-State. He is one of 800 scholars nationwide to win a Fulbright this year. November 2007

* Two K-State College of Business Administration faculty members have been named to the editorial review boards of distinguished journals. Kevin Gwinner, professor and head of the department of marketing, was appointed to the editorial review board of the Journals of Service Research, while Marne L. Arthaud-Day, assistant professor of management, was selected for the editorial review board of the Academy of Management Journal. November 2007

* K-State's Alpha Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi received four chapter awards and three individual awards at the organization's biennial national convention, Aug. 1-5, in Washington, D.C. Alpha Kappa Psi is America's oldest professional business fraternity. The K-State chapter's honors included the Award of Achievement for Outstanding Chapter, Certificate of Improvement, the Circle of Achievement, and the Circle of Excellence. K-State also received three of the six individual honors awarded at the convention, including Darcy Osterhaus, senior in management information systems, National Member of the Year award; Lana Costello, junior in finance, National Psi Award for outstanding contribution in enhancing professional development; and Donita Whitney Bammerlin, instructor of management, National Friend of Alpha Kappa Psi award. * Following a national search, Thomas A. Wright, an international expert on organizational behavior, has been named the first President Jon Wefald Leadership Chair in Business Administration. The chair was established by Paul and Sandra Edgerley, Brookfield, Mass. Wright will become the director of the College of Business Administration's Center for Leadership and a professor of management, teaching organizational behavior. August 2007

* Dan Deines, the Ralph Crouch KMPG Professor of Accounting at the College of Business Administration, is receiving the Distinguished Achievement in Accounting Education Award from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. The award offers professional recognition and promotes role models in academe. It recognizes full-time college accounting educators who exemplify the philosophy of the certified public accountant vision and are involved in the profession at the national level. It also honors excellence in teaching and innovation in curriculum development. Deines is actively involved with the institute's accounting careers subcommittee. He was named a "CPA Pathfinder" by the institute in 1999. May 2007

* The K-State Beta Alpha Psi chapter received first place for its Best Practices presentation at the Beta Alpha Psi Missouri Valley Regional Meeting March 31 in Kansas City. Six members of K-State's chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, a financial information honorary, showed a presentation about Boys and Girls Club activities as they competed in the "sustained and recognized service to the university, community and/or civic community" category. With the win, the chapter is now eligible to compete at the annual meeting in Chicago in August. April 2007

* Three K-State marketing students were awarded scholarships through a sales competition sponsored by the Brase Financial Group of the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network. In the competition, students participated in sales role-playing scenarios. More than 120 K-State students developed and videotaped seven- to 10-minute sales presentations. Twenty students were then selected for interviews, and winners were selected based on a combination of their presentations and interview scores. April 2007

* K-State and Coffeyville Community College have developed a 2 + 2 agreement that allows students to earn an associate degree in marketing and mid-management from Coffeyville and transfer credits to K-State to complete a bachelor's degree in general business. The agreement was signed Feb. 2. Twenty-three 2 + 2 agreements have now been signed between K-State and nine community colleges across Kansas and the country. Additional agreements are currently being developed. February 2007
