ABOUT CONTEMPORARY AMERICAN INDIAN ART TO BE PRESENTED AT K-STATE'S
BEACH MUSEUM OF ART
MANHATTAN
-- The Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art at Kansas State University
will present "Beyond Tradition," a video about contemporary
American Indian art and its evolution, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20,
in the museum's UMB Theatre.
The
presentation is free and the public is invited.
"Beyond
Tradition" includes more than 300 examples of prehistoric, historic
and contemporary American Indian art. The video also features a variety
of art genres and several Native American interludes.
The
video is being presented in conjunction with two current exhibitions
at the museum, "Lasting Impressions: Print Portfolio of Contemporary
Native American Artists" and "Selected Works on Paper by Jaune
Quick-To-See Smith." The exhibitions, on display through Sunday,
Dec. 7, are sponsored by the USD 383 Native American Parents Group.
"This
video examines how the strong heritage of Native American cultures has
inspired contemporary artists and compares their work with the traditional
work of their ancestors," said Andy Kowal, junior in management,
Shawnee, and an education and public service intern at the museum.
The
Beach Museum of Art is on the southeast corner of the K-State campus
at 701 Beach Lane. Admission to the museum is free and complimentary
visitor parking is available adjacent to the facility. Museum hours
are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 1-5 p.m. Saturday
and Sunday.
