K-STATE
AT SALINA TO HOST 2005 KANSAS STUDENT AFFAIRS CONFERENCE
SALINA
-- Kansas State University at Salina will be host to the 2005 Kansas
Student Affairs Conference, Oct. 6-7, at the Salina Holiday Inn
Convention Center. The theme is "Educate, Motivate, Celebrate!"
The
conference is designed as a professional development opportunity
for student affairs personnel, higher education professionals, retired
professionals, academics and graduate students who work or study
in the area of student affairs.
Jane
Fried, professor in the School of Education and Professional Studies
at Central Connecticut State University, will be the keynote speaker.
Fried is the author of "Shifting Paradigms in Student Affairs:
Culture, Context, Teaching and Learning," which is geared to
student affairs professionals whose primary focus is student learning.
Edward
Hammond, president of Fort Hays State University, will be the dinner
speaker. Hammond has been instrumental in computerizing the Fort
Hays campus environment; the formation of the Western Kansas Education
Compact; the Western Kansas Coalition for Economic Development;
cooperative bilingual teacher education programs; and fundraising.
Attendees
also will hear presenters from K-State, Butler County Community
College, Emporia State University and University of Kansas on topics
such as thematic housing, leadership, continuing education, diversity,
women's issues, personal development, management and small/private
schools.
Conference
organizers encourage professionals from two-year and four-year Kansas
colleges and universities to attend, as well as those in the profession
from neighboring states.
