BRINGING 23 HIGH SCHOOL BANDS TO CAMPUS FOR PERFORMANCES, CLINICS
AND CRITIQUES AT CENTRAL STATES MARCHING FESTIVAL
MANHATTAN
-- Kansas State University is giving student musicians from across
the state the chance to perform in a 50,000-seat stadium while picking
up some pointers along the way.
The
K-State Central States Marching Festival is Saturday, Oct. 21, at
Bill Snyder Family Stadium. More than 20 high school bands will
perform, receive ratings and attend clinics and critique sessions.
Each band will perform before a panel of judges, which assigns ratings
based on characteristics like showmanship, coordination and musicality.
The
bands also will have mini clinics based on videos of their performances.
Panel members will point out strengths and offer suggestions for
improvement. Bands also have the opportunity to attend an hour-long
clinic with K-State Marching Band members and staff and to see a
special performance by the band that evening.
"The
Central States Marching Festival has grown into the premier marching
band festival in the state of Kansas and the region," said
Frank Tracz, K-State's director of bands. "We are very proud
to be able to bring the kind of innovative and educational concepts
to our festival that make the day one of the truly enjoyable and
instructional marching events in all of the participants' year."
The
high school bands begin performing at 1:15 p.m., followed by the
K-State Marching Band at 7:15 p.m. The event closes with an awards
