FORMER
HALLMARK CARDS CEO IRVINE HOCKADAY JR. TO PRESENT K-STATE COLLEGE
OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION DISTINGUISHED LECTURE
MANHATTAN
-- Irvine O. Hockaday Jr., former president and chief executive
officer of Hallmark Cards Inc., will be the fall speaker for Kansas
State University's College of Business Administration Distinguished
Lecture Series.
Hockaday's
presentation will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 5, in the K-State
Student Union's Forum Hall. The lecture is free and the public is
welcome.
Yar
Ebadi, dean of the College of Business Administration, said it's
an honor to have a business leader of Hockaday's experience and
reputation serve as the college's fall distinguished lecturer.
"This
is a special opportunity for our students to hear from one of the
best business minds in our region," Ebadi said. "Irv Hockaday
is a successful business leader of national renown. His skill and
talent as an executive is legend in business circles throughout
the Midwest. He also believes in investing back into the community,
as evidenced by his many civic responsibilities."
Hockaday
joined Hallmark, the world's largest publisher of greeting cards
and related products, in 1983. He served on its board of directors
from 1978 to 2001.
Prior
to joining Hallmark, Hockaday served as president and chief executive
officer of Kansas City Southern Industries Inc., a diversified New
York Stock Exchange company.
An
active volunteer, Hockaday holds various positions in the Greater
Kansas City area, including as a member of the Civic Council of
Greater Kansas City, where he also served as a board chair; board
chair of the Kansas City Area Life Sciences Institute; a member
of the Mayor's Advisory Group; trustee of the Hall Family Foundation;
life trustee of the Midwest Research Institute, where he also is
a former chairman of the board; and advisory board member of the
University of Missouri-Kansas City Bloch Endowment.
Hockaday
also is a director of Aquila Inc., Crown Media Holdings Inc., Dow
Jones & Company Inc., the Estee Lauder Companies Inc., Ford
Motor Co. and Sprint Nextel Corporation. In addition, he is a former
chair of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City and trustee emeritus
of the Aspen Institute.
He
earned a bachelor's in English from Princeton University in 1958
and his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School in
1961. Prior to joining Kansas City Southern Industries in 1968,
Hockaday practiced law in Kansas City with the firm of Lathrop,
Koontz, Righter, Clagett & Norquist.
