KANSAS WIND FOR SCHOOLS SHOWING RESULTS: SCHOOLS INSTALLING WIND TURBINES FOR EDUCATION, OUTREACH: The five rural Kansas high schools selected by the Kansas Wind for Schools program to receive a small wind turbine for educational and outreach purposes have either already installed the turbines, or are about to do so.

K-STATE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION PRESENTS 2008 ANDERSON SENIOR AWARDS: Four outstanding Kansas State University seniors have received the 2008 Anderson Awards from the K-State Alumni Association.

K-STATE STUDENTS EARN PHI KAPPA PHI GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP, STUDY ABROAD GRANTS: Three Kansas State University students have received awards from Phi Kappa Phi, a national honor society.

K-STATE MATHEMATICS TEAM TAKES TOP SPOT IN 2008 KANSAS COLLEGIATE MATHEMATICS COMPETITION: A team from Kansas State University took first place at the 2008 Kansas Collegiate Mathematics Competition. Two K-State students also were among the four competitors finishing first individually.

K-STATE'S BRI IS NATIONAL BIOSAFETY AND BIOCONTAINMENT TRAINING PROGRAM'S FIRST DESIGNATED TRAINING FACILITY IN NATION: Kansas State University's BRI -- Biosecurity Research Institute -- is the National Biosafety and Biocontainment Training Program's first designated training facility in the nation.

K-STATE SOIL JUDGING TEAM TAKES FIRST AT NATIONAL CONTEST: The Kansas State University Soil Judging Team won first place overall at the 2008 National Soil Judging Contest. It is the first time K-State has won the national contest.

TWO K-STATE GRADUATE STUDENTS JOIN YOUTH FORUM TO SUGGEST SOLUTIONS FOR 10 PROBLEMS FACING THE WORLD TODAY: Two Kansas State University graduate students in agricultural economics have been selected to participate in the 2008 Copenhagen Consensus Center Youth Forum in Copenhagen, Denmark, May 25-30.

MORE THAN 50 STUDENTS AT K-STATE NEW MEMBERS OF PHI BETA KAPPA: New members of Kansas State University's chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest and most prestigious academic honor society, have been selected.

K-STATE DANCE STUDENTS TO PERFORM ORIGINAL WORKS: Original dance works will be performed by Kansas State University dance students at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, in East Stadium's Purple Masque Theater. The performances are free and open to the public.

K-STATE COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE STUDENTS RECOGNIZED FOR EXCELLENCE: The College of Agriculture at Kansas State University has recognized several seniors for excellence at K-State. The students were recognized at the college's recent annual Agriculture Awards Assembly.

K-STATE'S JOURNALISM SCHOOL RE-ACCREDITED: The A. Q. Miller School of Journalism and Mass Communications at Kansas State University has been re-accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications. The Council met in Arlington, Va., May 2 and voted unanimously in favor of re-accreditation.

K-STATE'S SILVER KEY NAMES NEW MEMBERS FOR 2008-2009: Kansas State University's Silver Key, a sophomore leadership honorary emphasizing community service, has selected its members for 2008-2009.

THREE K-STATE BUSINESS STUDENTS FROM GREATER KANSAS CITY EARN SCHOLARSHIPS FOR PROFESSIONAL SELLING SKILLS: The RPS Financial Group Inc. of the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network has awarded scholarships to three business students in Kansas State University's College of Business Administration as part of a sales competition conducted in the department of marketing's professional selling and sales management course.

STUDENTS EARN HONORS AT K-STATE'S LITTLE AMERICAN ROYAL: Livestock fitting and showmanship skills earned several Kansas State University students honors at K-State's 80th annual Little American Royal.

K-STATE SENIOR FROM NORTH DAKOTA IS COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE'S STUDENT OF THE YEAR; STUDENTS FROM CENTRALIA AND PHILLIPSBURG WIN MONTHLY HONORS: Rebecca Tokach, a senior in animal sciences and industry, has been named the Kansas State University College of Agriculture's Student of the Year. The honor includes the $500 Weyer Scholarship.

K-STATE TO CELEBRATE COMMENCEMENT MAY 10 IN SALINA AND MAY 16-17 IN MANHATTAN: Kansas State University is preparing to present degrees to more than 2,900 students at commencement ceremonies in Manhattan and Salina. The class of 2008 is the 141st to graduate from K-State since the first class graduated in 1867.

K-STATE STUDENTS SHARING THEIR TALENTS AT SPRING COMMENCEMENT CEREMONIES: Several students at Kansas State University will perform music or deliver speeches at upcoming K-State commencement ceremonies.

GUEST CRITICS TO LEAD K-STATE ARCHITECTURE FIFTH-YEAR DESIGN STUDIO FORUM: Three distinguished practitioners and academics will lead the first architecture Fifth-Year Design Studio Forum at Kansas State University's College of Architecture, Planning and Design. The guest critics are Robert McCarter, Dwayne Oyler and Karl Puljak.

K-STATE STUDENT FEATURED IN MILITARY SPOUSE MAGAZINE: The April 2008 issue of Military Spouse magazine included a student profile on Leigh Garza, a junior in pre-professional business administration at K-State. K-STATE ENGLISH CLASS TO PRESENT NOTED JOHN FORD PLAY MAY 10: Aside from the works of William Shakespeare, most people generally aren't familiar with English Renaissance plays. A Kansas State University English professor and his students plan to change this.

K-STATE DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY TO CELEBRATE COMPLETION OF PROJECT CREATING WRITTEN HISTORY OF 'LOST' KANSAS TOWN OF BROUGHTON: The history department at Kansas State University will have a Broughton Project Celebration and Wrap-up for all students and former residents of the Kansas town of Broughton who have contributed to the project. The celebration starts at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, in the Cottonwood Room at the K-State Student Union.

ENGLISH HONOR SOCIETY GAINS NEW MEMBERS FROM K-STATE: High academic achievement in their English studies has earned six students membership in Kansas State University's chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the international English Honor Society.

K-STATE RESEARCHERS EVALUATING TESTS THAT PROTECT SOLDIERS FROM PATHOGENS ON THE BATTLEFIELD: The U.S. has military personnel stationed around the world, and often those service members eat locally acquired food that may not have been processed the same way food is processed in the U.S. That's why K-State researchers are working with the U.S. Department of Defense to better protect American troops from the possibility of intentional or unintentional food contamination.

K-STATE STUDENTS PARTNER WITH WATERSHED RESTORATION PROJECT IN A WATER MANAGEMENT CAMPAIGN: Kansas State University students involved with a communications campaign for the Delaware River Watershed Restoration and Protection Strategy program will present their contributions to the campaign at a community event Thursday, May 1.

SIDEBAR: K-STATE FAMILY THERAPIST LOOKS AT CHANGING 'MALADAPTIVE RECURSIVE CYCLES' IN FAMILIES TO HELP PREVENT TEEN SUICIDES: Family therapy cannot only change a suicidal adolescent's ideas and behaviors, but it also can alter the attitudes and behaviors of the rest of the family members -- especially parents, according to a Kansas State University family therapist who has written a new book about family therapy and suicide prevention.

K-STATE HONORS 13 GRADUATING SENIORS FOR LEADERSHIP, IMPROVING CAMPUS LIFE: Kansas State University has recognized 13 students as outstanding graduating seniors. They were honored at an April 16 reception by Pat Bosco, K-State associate vice president for institutional advancement and dean of student life.

K-STATE'S CHAPTER OF LAMBDA PI ETA, THE NATIONAL SPEECH COMMUNICATION HONORARY, INDUCTS NEW MEMBERS: Kansas State University's chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, the national speech communication honor society, inducted new members in a ceremony April 11.

The numbers represent about the same number of people, but how you answered explains how you understand numerical information, according to a psychology professor at Kansas State University.

UPGRADE TO K-STATE'S RESEARCH REACTOR EXPANDS POTENTIAL FOR RESEARCH, CREATES MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS: A power upgrade that will make Kansas State University's nuclear reactor the fifth highest-powered university reactor in the country is expanding the possibilities for researchers who work in areas like radiation detector testing, radiography and trace element analysis.

AGRICULTURAL ATMOSPHERIC POLLUTION EXPERT TO PRESENT K-STATE'S KLING ANDERSON LECTURE: Joseph Vaughan, an expert in the atmospheric transport of pollutants, will deliver Kansas State University's 17th annual Kling Anderson Lecture at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, in 1014 Throckmorton Hall.

K-STATE PROFESSOR PUBLISHES BOOK THAT HELPS VETERINARY STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT COMMON LAB TESTS USED TO EVALUATE ANIMALS LIKE DOGS, CATS, HORSES AND CATTLE: Steven L. Stockham, a Kansas State University professor is co-author of a book that helps students of veterinary medicine learn about laboratory tests used to evaluate domestic mammals from cats to cattle.
